

The IGS-190-M mobile, is the world’s most mature gyroscopic inertial motion capture system, currently on v.9. It’s simple to set up, compact to store and convenient to use outside a studio, like all similar inertial systems but that's where similarities end. Patent-pending footstep algorithms focus on providing data with solid footsteps. Mocap data with "mushy" or "glidy" feet is good as garbage: practically unclean-able.
A special difference between IGS-190-M mobile and other similar systems is the ability to synchronize with additional hardware that can track the pelvis and provide global positioning data (6DoF), what inertial systems naturally lack. After adopting an optical system as a partner and failing to find a solution after 2 years, we took what we had learned and developed the ExacTrax Ultrasonic Tracking System, a sonar triangulating rig, that once plugged into a IGS-190-M mobile, upgrades it into an IGS-190-H hybrid. The positional data from the sonar rig is necessary in applications like "live" TV, multi-actor projects, and specially as a guide for post-process cleaning of the data for optical quality data without the "woodiness".
One ExacTrax Ultrasonic Tracker System comes with 20 microphones but can be expanded to 96 for L-shaped, odd-shaped, or even various floors or stairways. It can incorporate up to 4 IGS-190-M mobile systems (8 when there's only non-sporty motions). The IGS-190-H hybrid software however, can be used without the sonar hardware to edit data captured with IGS-190-M mobile and you can get same optical quality results, albeit taking a little longer to do it. The IGS-190-M mobile features nineteen matchbox-sized gyros attached to individual straps or a flexible lycra suit, designed with 13 years of experience in skin, muscle, and clothing artefact in mind. The gyros are the fastest in the market (1,200 deg/sec, made by www.intersense.com), 50% faster than our closest competitor. Ultrasonic hybrid setup for the IGS-190-H is like any line-of-site triangulating system, but the sensors are cheap, light-weight and heavy-duty and the incremental space calibration software can improve by just waving the emitter in front of the sensors.
Incredibly accurate data (even when raw) — Raw data is incredibly smooth and clean but for in-game loops our Keyframe Editor can get the files ready for engines using our proven pipelines that are much simpler than optical data cleaning pipelines. Angle data is provided directly from the sensors, cutting out cumbersome positional data solving to get angles. Gyros speeds at 1200 degrees/sec. can handle any martial art movement.
Totally portable — The IGS-190-M mobile capture system fits entirely within a customised flight case (46x40x30cm), requires only automatic calibration and makes moving from one capture space to another simple, quick and efficient. Our mobile systems are powered by a high-capacity, hot-swappable battery packs which enable you to capture without interruption. Because the IGS-190-H hybrid uses ultra-sensitive microphones instead of cameras for triangulation, permanent capture spaces can be created, and duplicated with minimal cost. The ultrasonic processors and the workstation at the heart of the system are entirely portable and take only minutes to connect to and work with an already calibrated ultrasonic capture space making the IGS-190-M a truly mobile resource .
Large capture area — The IGS-190-M mobile system operates over an enormous capture area with a range of up to 200m radius, made possible by our military grade radio transmitter. You can even capture movement through walls or roam out of rooms. And if that’s not enough, use a laptop to follow the actor and the range is limitless. When using the IGS-190-H hybrid system using the Ultrasonic ExactTrax tracker however, a 6m x 6m is standard capture space , which can be enlarged with more sensors, into unorthodox separate but connected rooms, L-shaped spaces, different floor levels, stairways. IGS-190-H Hybrid comes with 20 microphones to cover the standard capture space, but can handle up to 96 microphones when using more becomes necessary.
Simple, accurate multicapture — IGS-190-M mobile systems don’t require cameras, or sonar markers, so are completely free from occlusion and swapping making multi actor capture simple. If however, higher accuracy in referencing the multiple actors was deemed necessary, the IGS-190-H hybrid editing software can reduce the data cleaning to a minimum since there's only one marker per actor to track and clean.
User-activated GUI triggers — Our systems allow 6 programmable switches to be triggered by the operator. Place time codes, reset starting position, start or stop a take, or blend in an animation or a constraint in MotionBuilder for real-time performance application, all can be triggered by the actor with wireless switches.
